How I work

Before you assume you need fixing, look at the conditions you're trying to function inside.

This isn't a programme everyone gets marched through in the same order.

It's how I help women create more flow: notice what isn't working, get curious about why, change something, see what happens. Then do it again.

The idea underneath

Think of a river.

Flow isn't a practice you perform. It's a condition you build.

Most advice asks how you can cope better. I'm more interested in why your life needs so much coping in the first place.

You don't need to become better at coping with the river. Sometimes you need to change its course.

Water

= what you have

Energy, time, attention, health, money, support, headspace.

Riverbed

= the shape of your life

Work, relationships, responsibilities, routines, expectations, where you live, how your week is built.

Friction

= what gets in the way

Too much coming in, energy leaking out, something blocking you, or nothing moving at all.

Flow

= movement

What happens when what you have and the shape of your life work together well enough for you to move.

Where you start

Not everybody starts in the same place.

or: how much have you got left in the tank today?

"Is this really it?"

You've got some bandwidth. Life works, mostly. But something feels stuck, flat or restless, and you want to work out what, and what you'd like instead.

This is where we get curious: what still fits, what doesn't, and what you want to try.

"I'm bloody exhausted. I don't have capacity for a life redesign."

Then we don't start there. The first job is to reduce the load, restore some capacity, get the right support in place, and make enough room to think and choose again.

Same philosophy. Different starting point.

More on the two starting points →

What actually happens

Roughly this. Not always in this order.

01

Notice where life isn't flowing

What feels stuck, draining or just flat? Not where you think you should be struggling. Where you actually are.

02

Look at what's really going on

What you've actually got in the tank now, and how that part of your life is set up. Some of it you chose. Some you inherited. Some just happened.

Why is this needing so much coping in the first place?

friction is information
03

Change something small

Not "redesign your whole life". A small, real experiment in your actual week.

04

Learn, and choose again

What happened is information. We're not trying to design one perfect life and freeze it forever. Designs expire. Bodies change, children change, priorities change. You change.

Round and round

Experiments, not a five-year plan.

Question→Experiment→Experience→Insight→Next experiment

I'm not going to hand you a finished blueprint for the rest of your life. Life changes too fast for that, and midlife changes it faster.

What I can help you build is a way of noticing, testing and choosing again that you keep long after we've stopped working together.

Isn't that more exciting?

When things get stuck

Five ways friction tends to show up.

Think of a river again. Sometimes something's in the way. Sometimes water's leaking out. Sometimes there's far too much of it.

These aren't personality types, diagnoses or quiz results. They're just words for noticing what's going on. Most people recognise more than one.

Blockage

Something is stopping you. You can see the next step. You can't take it.

Leakage

Energy drains away, often without you noticing. You're not falling apart. You're just always a bit tired, a bit behind, giving more than comes back.

Rough Terrain

The ground itself is working against you. You're trying twice as hard to get the same distance.

Flooding

Too much is coming in at once, so you end up answering whatever's loudest instead of what matters.

Stagnation

Nothing's moving. The sneaky one, because it doesn't feel like pain. It feels like fine.

Where this comes from

I learned it the hard way. I'm still learning it.

I spent 25 years in strategy and marketing, which is mostly the job of working out why things aren't working and redesigning them. Then burnout and perimenopause arrived at the same time, and I tried everything I was supposed to try. None of it changed the structure I was living inside.

What changed things was changing the structure. I did that once, very deliberately. Now life has shifted again, and I'm using exactly this process on my own life.

Working together

Where you start depends on what's left in the tank.

If you're running on empty

The Capacity Reset

You don't need to work out what you want from the next twenty years. You need some pressure to come off first.
